General

According to a recent announcement by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India, linking of Aadhaar number to insurance policies is compulsory under the Prevention of Money-laundering Second Amendment Rules, 2017. Individuals that wish to avail any kind of financial service, including insurance, are now required to provide their Aadhaar and PAN/Form 60. The regulator has stated that all insurance companies – life and nonlife – are required to put this into practice.

Linking policies (existing and new) with Aadhaar is expected to further help streamline KYC processes for clients, bring greater transparency and reduce instances of fraudulent claims. The new mandate will also ensure that you, the insured individual, don’t face any unnecessary hassles at the time of submitting claims.

Online Linking

If you are a registered user, just login to your insurance company’s customer service portal and add your 12-digit unique identification number to your profile. In case you aren’t a registered online customer and you wish to link the number to your policy online, visit the insurance company’s website and complete the online registration process.

Documents required:

  1. Your policy number
  2. Date of birth / Age
  3. PAN
  4. Email ID
  5. Mobile number and
  6. Aadhaar details

Offline Linking

Linking of your Aadhaar number to your insurance policy can also be done by visiting any of the branches of the insurance company. Make sure to carry a self-attested copy of your Aadhaar card when you visit the branch.

To avoid any unnecessary troubles at the time of making claims, it is recommended that you link your insurance policy with your Aadhaar right away. For any queries on linking insurance policy to Aadhaar, write to us in the comments section below or drop us a mail at support@oneinsure.com.
