What is the process of making changes or endorsements in a motor insurance policy?

A motor insurance endorsement is essentially any change that the insured would like to make in his/her existing policy. There are two types of changes that can be done under a motor insurance policy.

  • Non-monetary changes – These changes include any that can be made by notifying the insurance company and which do not require the customer to pay any additional premiums. Examples include name correction, address addition, or contact details additions.
  • Monetary changes – These changes include any that can be made by notifying the insurance company and which require the customer to pay additional premiums. Examples include the addition of a CNG kit, installation of electronic items, and so on.

Let us look at the different endorsements that are allowed under a motor policy and the documents required for alterations.

Policy Detail Corrections Are:

  • Name correction
  • Alteration in contact details
  • Engine no. / chassis no. correction
  • Address alteration
  • Registration no. / manufacturing year correction
  • Nominee details alteration
  • CC / make / model correction
  • Correction in fuel type
  • Endorsement for CNG kit
  • Remove/add hypothecation (in case the vehicle is on loan)
  • Policy ownership transfer
  • Transfer existing No Claim Bonus to a new policy
  • Policy copy not received
  • Insure recently installed music system/upholstery
  • Renewed expired policy

Documents Required Are:

  • Request letter
  • Registration certificate or copy of Form 29/30
  • Original policy certificate (if required)
  • Old owner NOC (if required)
  • Photo ID proof
  • Certification of anti-theft devices
  • Invoice for CNG kit (if required)
  • Address proof
  • Receipt of RTO transfer fees
  • Death certificate of the current registered owner (in case of transfer of ownership)
  • Employees' NOC for NCB transfer
