Many of us suffer from allergies of different kinds - food, dust, pet fur, etc. Coming into contact with anything that triggers an allergic reaction is never pleasant, given that itching, sneezing, swelling and rashes are some of the symptoms you experience. So where does health insurance stand in case of allergies? A common question that we get from our customers is whether they will be eligible for a health cover if they suffer from some kind of allergy. Well, the good news is that health insurance companies do extend coverage to people suffering from allergies.

Not only can you get a cover if you have allergies, most insurance companies cover allergy treatments as well. Now, an important point to be noted is that health insurance plans mostly cover severe allergies i.e. those which can possibly land the insured individual at the hospital. But normal allergies - the non-fatal ones that can be treated with medication - are usually not covered by health insurance plans.
Before you buy an insurance cover, have a word with the insurance broker about what exactly will be covered by the insurer. Be completely honest about the allergies you suffer from, even if it means you will have to pay a little more premium. Remember, just because you have an allergy, you do not get disqualified from getting a health insurance plan. Being insured is especially important for those suffering from severe allergies, as you wouldn’t have to worry about the costs associated with hospitalization and medical treatments. Your insurance company will have you covered and you can focus all your attention on recovering and regaining your health.
